Jamshedpur Cooperative College, one of the oldest institutions of the Steel City, will be given a facelift this year.
A three-member team of Kolhan University (KU) that paid an unscheduled visit to the college on Wednesday announced a slew of measures to restore the lost glory of the institution set up in 1970.
The team comprising registrar K C Dey, assistant registrar S S Akhtar and finance officer Brajesh Tiwary announced that the college would have adequate infrastructure ahead of the beginning of the law course proposed in June.
"The infrastructure work (ongoing construction of law college building) will be over ahead of the start of the course in the new academic session," said Dey. Despite being announced, the law course couldn't start in the present academic session (2011-12) because of poor infrastructure.
Accepting the suggestions of the college employees and students' union, the team announced installing a large signboard on the campus. "Information about the locations of various departments, courses available in the college and faculty members' names and their respective departments will be displayed on the board," said Dey.
Clearing air on the controversy on leasing the college ground for wedding ceremonies, the team said the ground could only be hired for sports purposes. Recently, the college administration faced embarrassment after it was let out for a wedding reception to a trader family.
The team also announced setting up a cricket academy in the college likely from the next academic session. "The academy is a proposal submitted by the college to the visiting team and, if funds are available, we will be able to start the academy from the next academic session," said college principal R K Das.
The domestic cricket matches of the Jharkhand State Cricket Association are regularly held on the college ground throughout the season.
If things move according to plans, the college will for the first time have a complaint box for the students and the staff members. "The need for a complaint box was being felt for sometime and subsequent to the submission of our proposal, the visiting team agreed to it," said the principal.
The team, however, did not disclose about the approximate budget the university would have to dole out for the facility enhancement exercise.
