Miscreants damaged a Rajiv Gandhi  statue at Chilkalguda Crossroads near Oliphant bridge in Secunderabad on Sunday morning. Though police are still clueless about the possible offenders, some Osmania University (OU) students claimed responsibility for the incident and said they damaged the statue in retaliation for the desecration of an Ambedkar statue in Amalapuram. By evening, three vehicles were damaged in protest against the Amalapuram incident.

Meanwhile, the OU deferred MA, MSc, MBA, M Com, LLB and B E examinations scheduled to be held on January 30 following tension on the campus. Post-graduate examinations (MA, MSc, M Com) will be held on February 2, MBA, BE and LLB (three-year) examinations on February 1 and LLB (five-year) examinations on February 3.

At about 11.30 am, the Gopalapuram police were alerted by local Congressmen about the damaged Rajiv Gandhi. They rushed to the spot, where a group of Congress activists gathered and staged a dharna demanding immediate arrest of the culprits. Police immediately brought the situation under control by promising to book criminal cases.
