A Commerce student of Delhi University and an LLB student of IMT-Rohtak were arrested on Saturday for allegedly stealing luxury cars. Police claimed to have recovered seven stolen vehicles from their possession.
Akshay (19) and Nitin (21) fell in police net when they were stopped at a police picket on IGNOU Road in South Delhi. “The accused were in a Honda City. When asked to produce the documents of the vehicle, they could not do so. On verification through Auto-Match System, the car was found to be stolen from Malviya Nagar area,” said Chhaya Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South).
She said the friends stole vehicles, Honda City in particular, to maintain their lavish lifestyle and meet the expenses of their girlfriends. The duo allegedly stole at least seven Honda City cars and one Maruti Esteem.
Police said they used to install beacons on cars to prevent police checking. “They are new to the crime and were looking for buyers for the cars,” Sharma said.
