Here comes some respite for all law students in the city. The South Calcutta Law College is all set to introduce several UGC-sponsored courses from its new academic session.

The new courses were inaugurated at the college on Thursday. Assistant public prosecutor, legal drafting and national eligibility test will be taught in these special classes. Earlier, the students had no scope to receive specialized training in the city.

Students were compelled to travel to Delhi to receive training but this would no more be repeated with a city college providing this exposure to its students.

"Today we start with the new UGC-sponsored courses. I think these new courses will be of great help to our students who plan to diversify and specialize," said college principal Debashis Chattopadhyay.

State law minister Malay Ghatak, the chief guest at the occasion, said, that the novel step taken by the college will open up new avenues for aspiring lawyers.

"Nowadays, there is a great demand for lawyers in almost every sector. Such courses will definitely train and produce good specialized lawyers."
