Hidayatullah National Law University (HNLU), Raipur.
BRIEF INTRODUCTION-Hidayatullah National Law University (HNLU), Raipur, came into existence in 2003; its motto being, "Dharma Sansthapanartham", that is, for the sake of establishing the primacy of the laws of eternal value. It is a Residential University and is sixth in the series of National Law Schools in India.The university is named after Justice Hidayatullah, one of the greatest legal luminaries of India. HNLU being one of the most prestigious centre for legal education in india offers innumerable oppourtunities for the students to interact with acadmecians, lawyers, Judges, firms, banking and other related institutions. The rigorous course curriculum, supported by experianced faculty, ensures impeccable young law graduates. HNLU has been included in the list of the Universities maintained by the University Grants Commission under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956 and has been declared fit to receive Central assistance in terms of the rules framed under Section 12 (B) of the UGC Act, 1956. The Chief Justice of India is the Visitor and The Chief Justice of High Court of Chattisgarh is the Chancellor of the University.
The university is equipped with state-of-art infrastructural facilities complete with a huge sprawling 65-acre of campus. The unversity has separate Halls of Residance for boys and girls, with attached dining halls. HNLU is the only National Law University in India having a hi-tech Language Lab to equip students with writing skills and communication skills required for a promising career in law. The Language Lab is having computers fully loaded with interactive language learning programs. The library being the hub of all activities, has a myriad collection of books, some of them being rare ones donated by Justice M. Hidayattullah. HNLU, also periodically publishes student journals like, "Journal of Law and Social Policy" and "Student Law Journal".
There is a Student Bar Association, wherein each student is a member. There are 12 such associations, each handling a distinct arena of an extra-curricular activity, with the support of 2 Faculty members each. It is a professional body maintaining the highest professional integrity and skills. The various committees are- Moot Court Society, Legal Service Society, Literary and Debate Society, Library Committee, I.T. Committee, Public Relations Committee, Disciplinary Committee, Mess Committee, Halls of Residence Committee, Cultural Committee, Students Editorial Board and Sports Committee. Each Committee has a convener and co-convener.
Students at HNLU are given about six to eight weeks of internship. During the first year, they intern with social groups, NGOs and local self-government institutions. In the second year, they intern with Trial advocates, while third year students train under Appellate advocates. Fourth year students get to train in corporate law firms and in the final year, students can choose any national or international institutions.
The University's Placement committee gives support to the Student Placement Committee, which conducts the actual placements. Over the past years, graduates have been placed in national and internationally renowned organizations, with considerably good pay-packages. The final approval on placement decisions of the Placement however, rests with the Vice Chancellor.
ELIGIBILTY-Admissions are based exclusively on merit as assessed in the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) with the following qualifications-



  1. The candidate must not have completed 20 years of age as on 1st July on the year of admission. In the case of candidates belonging to SC/ST, the maximum age limit shall be 22 years as on 1st July on the year of admission.

  2. The candidate must have passed the Higher Secondary School Examination (10+2) or an equivalent examination thereto securing in the aggregate not less than 50% of the total marks in the core subjects and English language put together


The test carries a maximum of 200 marks and comprises of objective type of questions on English, general knowledge, maths, logic and legal knowledge, of 10+2 standard. The test is of 2 hours duration.

NO. OF SEATS
-The HNLU admits 90 students out of which 8 seats are reserved for Non Resident Indians (NRIs) and 2 for foreigners. The remaining 80 seats are to be filled up on the basis of Common Law Admission Test.

Schedule tribe- 12 seats
Physically handicapped- 1 seat

ALL INDIA BASIS- 40 seats
Unreserved- 30 seats
Schedule caste- 6 seats
Schedule tribe- 3 seats
Physically handicapped- 1 seat

ADMISSION PROCEDURE
-
After clearing the examination, the student needs to contact the Registrar, NUJS, kolkata and send a demand draft of the requisite fees, that is Rs. 79,000/-
