NALSAR University of Law , HYDERABAD- BREIF INTRODUCTION -The University even though just four years old, is among the top 2 law schools in India. A fully residential institution, it prides itself on its exceptional and outstanding infrastructure and architecture. NALSAR aims at creating a breed of young law graduates who join the Bar and enter into litigation, thereby countering the growing trend of corporate law. The faculty here is dedicated and experienced. The curriculum here is a nice blend of theory and practice. Guest lectures here include eminent jurist like Upendra Baxi, Mr. Goplakrishnan and likes. The university also has student exchange programmes with various countries like Germany, USA, UK, Canada, Australia and Israel. The teaching here makes the students socially relevant, technically competent and professionally sound. NALSAR promotes a healthy and vibrant extracurricular atmosphere. NALSAR has been heavily involved in research since its inception with international organizations like United Nations, European Union, World Bank, Ford Foundation etc. and Government of India. Environment, child labour, intellectual property, arbitration law are the few topics which its research centers are handling. ELIGIBILTY-Admissions are based exclusively on merit as assessed by the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) with the following qualifications-
The candidate must have passed 10+2 or its equivalent examination securing 50% of marks in the aggregate and;
Must be less than 20 years of age on July 1st of the year of admission, in case of SC/ST candidates it is 22 years and 25 years in people with disability.
The test carries a maximum of 200 marks and comprises of objective type of questions on English, general knowledge, maths, logic and legal knowledge, of 10+2 standard. The test is of 2 hours duration. NO. OF SEATS-There are a total number of eighty seats (80), of which ten are allotted to the foreign nationals. Thus, for Indian nationals, there are only 70 seats. RESERVATION SCHEME-The reservation scheme is as follows- Schedule Caste - 15% (11 seats) Schedule Tribe - 7.5% (5 seats) Women - 30% (horizontal) Persons with Disability - 3% (2 seats) Since women candidates admitted come to about 50% on their own merit this reservation does not affect the seats in the general category. The foreign students will be admitted directly on the basis of their performance in qualifying examination, overall academic record and proficiency in English language. All foreign candidates must apply directly to the Registrar, NALSAR, and Hyderabad in the prescribed application form with supporting documents by requisite time span. ADMISSION PROCEDURE- After clearing the examination, the student needs to contact the Registrar, NALSAR and send a demand draft of the requisite fees.
