National University of Juridical Sciences ( NUJS), Kolkata-
BRIEF INTRODUCTION-The WB NUJS is a premier institute for legal studies and research. Set up in 1999 by state Government with a view to promote excellence in legal education, it is ranked amongst the top 5 law schools of India. The college provides for experience based learning under multidisciplinary curriculum and imparts clinical methods of teaching. The faculty here is, experienced and dedicated towards bringing up a new breed of professional lawyers. The Chief Justice of India in the Chancellor of NUJS, thereby insuring a high standard of management. The extra curricular activities, in the university include- moot courts, essay writings debates, in which the students have proven their excellence. Also, the students have to their credit a hoard of international and national publications; and have participated in varied seminars. The student body here is among the smartest, brightest group of today's budding lawyers. Not only have they done the University proud in their academic and other achievements, they have also been instrumental in the development of the University in all its facets: from its outstanding recruitment records, to the campus itself, when they participated in decisions relating to the construction of the new campus buildings. The Internship programme forms an integral part of education at NUJS, to provide the students a practical experience of the field. Students have to intern with law firms, Companies, Senior Advocates, NGOs etc. NUJS students have interned with the top law firms, companies and NGOs these includes- Amarchand Mangaldas,Anand & Anand, ARA Law, AZB & Partners, Baker Mckenzie(Hong Kong) etc. the graduates have been placed at some of the top Indian corporate houses, and at the best corporate law firms in the country, which stands to be a cause of envy amongst their peers.
ELIGIBILITY- Admissions are based exclusively on merit as assessed in the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) with the following qualifications-
The candidate must have passed the Higher Secondary School Examination (10+2) or an examination equivalent thereof, securing in aggregate not less than 50% in all the core subjects and English put together.
Must not have completed 20 years of age as on 1st July, 2008 in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST category age limit is 22 years.
All those who have appeared in the qualifying examinations are entitled to write the Admission Test. But any candidate securing less than 50% in the qualifying examination will be denied admission notwithstanding his/her rank in the Admission Test.
The test carries a maximum of 200 marks and comprises of objective type of questions on English, general knowledge, maths, logic and legal knowledge, of 10+2 standard. The test is of 2 hours duration
NO. OF SEATS -there are a total number of 125 seats for B.A, LL.B (hons) course.
RESERVATION SCHEME -The reservation scheme is as follows- General - 78 seats
Sponsored by non-residents Indians -18 seats ADMISSION PROCEDURE -After clearing the examination, the student needs to contact the Registrar, NUJS, kolkata and send a demand draft of the requisite fees, that is Rs. 58,000/-. Rest of the procedure as described by the university.
